Barot is a beautiful destination located in Mandi district in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Barot is a picturesque location situated at a distance of 60 km from Mandi with at an elevation of 1830 mts above the sea level. It is a perfect destination for those who love adventure, the amazing landscape, unpolluted air, greenery, pleasant weather, water streams, snow capped Himalayan peaks etc makes the destination more amazing. Barot is popularly known for its numerous trekking trail which passes through the village. It is a perfect destination for trekking and some of trekkers know about the trekking in barot valley and its unexploited Nature beauty. It come limelight when the project Shanan Hydroelectric was proposed around 1920. The River Uhl is lies in between Barot and Jogindranagar which is mainly used to utilize the hydroelectric. Barot village is considered as the tourist destination but not many know about this.
Although, this is a small village but holds great nature beauty which is surrounding by the mostly Deodar and Oak thick forest and home of the rich flora and fauna. One can enjoy the nature walk through wooded forest and get some excellent experience for whole life. This valley is offered the great opportunities for adventure lovers like Trekking, Camping and Fishing are some of the most popular activities of Barot. Barot does not have Luxury accommodation but his valley offered provides neat and comfortable lodges facilities. Apart from this is a gateway to the Naargu wildlife sanctuary. It is a perfect picnic spot where you will enjoy with family, friends, couples, tourists and rejuvenate yourself.


Best time to reach Barot:

Summer: Summer begins from April to till June and the best time to visit for sightseeing. During the summer the temperature is pleasant.
Winter: November to till February is the winter season here. During winters the temperature as low as zero level.


Visiting place in Barot:

Uhl River: Uhl River is one of the major attractions of this place that is only natural water body which originated at the Thamsar Glacier in the Dhauladhar range. This charming river allowed travelers lot of outdoor activities like camping and fishing.

Nargu Wildlife Sanctuary: It is situated in the other side of Uhl River which is major tourist attraction of the valley. It is abode of various species of rare animals like Himalayan Monal, Black Bear, Ghoral etc. Nargu offered the trekking route to Kullu which passed through beautiful thick forests.

Barot Temple: Barot temple is situated on the bank of Uhl River and one of a religious temple which is dedicated to Local deity known as Dev Pashakot Temple. It is situated at the bottom of the hill which takes 15 minutes trek to reach this temple.

Shanan Hydel Project: Shanan Hydroelectric project is one of the main reasons for the development of Valley. It was created by the Britishers in collaboration with the king of Jogindranagar But today it is under control of Punjab state Electricity board.

Chuhar Valley: Chuhar valley is one of the most beautiful tourists destination situated in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Barot is a part of Chuhar valley and Jhatingri village and hurang Narayan Temple is the other major attraction of Barot. The international festival ‘Shivratri’ is celebrated annually by the locals of Mandi


How to reach Barot:

By Air: The nearest Airport is Kulllu Manali Airport which takes 4 hour to reach. Outside the Airport taxies and buses are easily available.
By Train: Jogindernagar is the nearest Railway Station which takes around 2 hours to reach Barot.
By Road: Barot is located at a distance of 40 km from Jogindranagar 66 km from Mandi. Barot is well connected to the major cities of Himachal and buses and taxies are easily available here.
