Kaza is a most beautiful place and one of the most important and famous town in the Spiti Valley in Lahaul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh. It is situated at an elevation of 11,980 ft above the sea level and offered the overlooked high mountains from all sides. It can be easily reached from two sides Kinnaur valley and Manali via Rohtang Pass. Kaza is rich in flora and fauna and present the amazing charm of the place. It is divided into two parts – The Old Kaza and New Kaza. The old kaza is called Kaza khas the major attraction of the place are king’s palace, monasteries, gompas, ancient buildings etc. The new Kaza is called Kaza Soma and government offices, hotels, restaurants etc are situated here. Tourists from all around the world visit this beautiful destination, apart from that it is a hub of Adventure activities like trekking, Mountaineering etc.
The high snow capped mountains, crystal clear water rivers, streams, green meadows, pleasant weather, fresh environment, amazing landscape and adventure activities etc makes the destination more attractive. The Sakya Tangyud Monastery is one of the major attractions of the place and the colorful festivals are well known in the whole country. It also a paradise for nature and adventure lovers and Pin- Prvati, Parang-La and Pin Bhaba are some popular trekking trail starts from kaza. There is world’s highest post office is situated here. The ancient monasteries and gompas are present the ancient culture and traditions of Kaza. Tobo Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries located in kaza and Murals of Tabo monastery are similar to Ajanta paintings. It holds great Buddhist traditions and culture and kaza is the best place where you watch Lama Dance.
One can easily reach this amazing spot from Kinnaur valley and Lahaul Valley and the route from Kinnaur valley is remain open throughout the year. The Lahaul valley route opens only during summer and closes during winters. Kaza is one of the best destinations in Himachal which provides you amazing and excellent memories. Best time to visit Kaza:

Summer: Summer begins from March o till June and summer is the best time to visit this destination with the temperature of 15 degree Celsius. The days are hot but the nights are cool. During summer trekking and camping is the best sport activities which performed here.
Winter: Winters are extremely chilly at Kaza and the winter starts from October to till February. During the winters the temperature as low as zero level.
Monsoon: Kaza Received heavy amount of rainfall during July to till September.


Places to visit in Kaza:

Key Monastery: Key Monastery is one of the most visited and largest in the Spiti valley which is established in 11th century. It is situated at a distance of 7 km from kaza. The monastery presents the ancient architecture, Buddhist scrolls and Paintings. Inside the monastery you do not click the photographs. Large number of Buddhist monks, nuns and lamas live in this monastery.

Komic village: Komic village is the highest village in Asia surrounding by the beautiful mountains in the Himachal Pradesh. It is located at an elevation of 18,000 ft above the sea level. This village presents the amazing beauty which cannot be described in the world. It is surrounding by the snowbound mountains and attracts lot of the tourists from all around the world. Amazing nature beauty and charming festivals increase the charm of the place.

Kunzum Pass: Kunzum Pass is one of the most visited pass full of adventure referred as the India’s highest motorable mountain passes located at an elevation of 4551 mts above the sea level. Dhankar Gompa: Dhankar Gompa is a beautiful monastery located at the top of the Dhankar village with at an elevation of 3800 mts above the sea level. This monastery is around 1000 years old and well connected through motorable roads. There is a new monastery in this small village but the old monastery has five different halls and a huge silver image of Vajradhara.

Dhankar Fort: Dhankra fort is one of the major attractions of Dhankar village situated at the top of the hill in Dhankar. Dhankar is located in the cold desert which looks like a bowl.

Pin Valley National Park: It is located in the cold desert area of Lahaul and Spiti which referred as the home of more than 25 species of animals and birds. This amazing National park was established in 1987 with at an elevation of 3300 to 6632 mts above the sea level. It is rich in flora and fauna.

Tabo Monastery: Tobo Monastery is referred as the Ajanta of the Himalayan which is one of the most popular attractions located in Lahaul and Spiti. It is believed that the monastery was found in 996 A.D. It is an untouched beauty and served as the glorious heritage offered the traditions and culture of Buddhist. The temple complex of the monastery is declared a National Historic Treasure.

Kilbber Village: Kilbber is a most beautiful village located in Spiti Valley at a height of 4205 mts above the sea level. It is a highest motorable village in the world situated in the cold desert. This beautiful village is surrounding by the picturesque mountains, amazing landscape and green meadows. It can be easily reachable from Key Monastery which is situated just a few km from here.

Langza Village: Langza Village is a picturesque village blessed by the ancient monasteries and buildings. This beautiful village is situated in Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh. It is referred as the best place to visit in entire Spiti Valley. The amazing greenery, snow capped Himalayan peaks and barren landscape makes it more attractive. Dhankar Lake: This Lake is located nearby the Rohtang Pass with at an elevation of 4270 mts above the sea level. This lake is also known as the name of Surkund and considered as half manmade lake.

Kungri Monastery: Kungri Monastery is located at a distance of 10 km from Attargo in Pin Valley of Himachal Pradesh. It is believed that this monastery was established in 14th century and displayed the silk Paintings of various Buddhist deities on the inner wall.

Chandertal Lake: It is referred as the Moon Lake surrounding by the charming Himalayan Mountains on all side. It is located at an elevation of 14,100 ft above the sea level in Spiti Valley. This lake is accessible only during the summer months and during the winters this lake remains frozen.

Lhalung Monastery: It is one of the oldest monasteries in the Northern region. Lhalung Monastery is a tall monastery situated at an elevation of 3900 mts above the sea level. During 18th century this monastery was renovated by a Ladakhi and inside the temple complex there is 12ft statue of Guru Padmasabhava.

Losar village: Losar Village is a heaven situated in Lahaul and Spiti Valley which is situated near the confluence of Losar and Peeno Streams in the extreme end of Spiti Valley. It is located to the Indo Chinese border with at an elevation of 4085 mts above the sea level.

Tangyud Monastery: Tangyud Monastery is situated about four km from Kaza with at an elevation of 4587 mts above the sea level. It is an amazing place to learn about Buddhism and know about their culture and traditions.


Excursion near Kaza:

Spiti: Spiti is a beautiful valley which is situated at a distance of 10 km from Kaza at an elevation of 2745 mts above the sea level. The meaning of Spiti is ‘Middle Country’ and also known as the Little Tibet. Spiti lies in between Tibet, Ladakh, Kinnaur, Lahaul and Kullu and the people who live here are honest and simple. The Spiti River is one of the major attractions which is fast flowing. This beautiful valley is spread around 4800 sq km and the main valley is split into eastern and western valleys. Summer is the best time to visit Spiti with cool and pleasant weather with green grass and alpine flowers. There are little monsoon in the valley which makes the destination unique.

Lahaul: Lahaul and Spiti is the largest district in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh which is situated on the Indo – Tibetan border of India. It is a perfect destination for Adventurous lover and trekkers. It is two remote villages, situated at an elevation of 3350 mts above the sea level. Lahaul is the coldest area which offered the unique terrain and adventurous. Lahaul is famous for its various high altitude trek and rich culture of Tibetan. How to reach Kaza:

By Air: Bhuntar is the nearest airport to Kaza situated at a distance of 250 km from Kaza. Chandigarh is the other nearest Airport situated 212 km from kaza. Outside the Airport, buses and taxies are easily available to reach.
By Train: Joginder Nagar Railway station is the nearest Railway station situated at a distance of 365 km away from Kaza. Regular bus services are easily available here.
By Road: The Himachal Pradesh Road Transport corporation runs regular buses from Kullu.
