Mcleodganj is most beautiful hill station located near Dharamshala in himachal Pradesh. Its strong Buddhist culture makes it attractive. Mcleodganj is popularly known for abode of Dalai Lama and Tibetan refugee. Today Mcleodgand is one of the most favorite tourist destinations which situated in Kangra district. It is referred as the Little Lhasa. This beautiful town is situated at a distance of 3 km from Dharamshala visited by thousands of the tourists from all around the world. Mcleodganj is famous especially for being a spiritual getaway and pilgrimage for Buddhist. It is an ideal destination for those who know more about Tibetan culture and traditions. It is the home of 14 Dalai Lama who came here in 1960. This beautiful town is the permanent residence of Dalai Lama and his followers.

The amazing trek passes through the thick forest of Oak, Deodar and Rhododendron. It is lies in the Dahahuladhar range with the highest peak hanuman ka Tibba which is lying just behind the town.
It is situated at a distance of 9 km from Dharamshala, 20 km from Kangra, 94 km from Pathankot and 121 km from Dalhousie with at an elevation of 2083 mts above the sea level. The Kareri Lake is one of the other major attractions of the place. This Lake is the base camp of the Manikaran Pass which is the perfect combination of offbeat trekking and charming nature beauty. Manikaran Pass is the other second most important and popular tourist attraction which is situated at an elevation of 14,000 ft above the sea level.

Best time to reach:

Summer: Summer begins from April and till to July with the temperature of 22 to 30 degree Celsius. During the summer the weather is always pleasant and ideal time to visit Triund and Indrahar Pass.
Winter: Winter is the best time to visit Mcleodganj with the temperature of -1 to 7 degree Celsius. Winter begins from October to till February and the snowfall by the end of year and continue to February.
Monsoon: July is the starting month of Monsoon here to continue September with the temperature of 18 to 22 degree.

Places to visit in Mcleodgand:

Triund Trek: Triund far from hustle and bustle of the cities which is situated a few km from Dharamshala. Triund trek is one of amazing trekking trail situated in kangra valley. This trek is short which is offered the most amazing views of surrounding, snow mountains, landscapes etc. Triund trek is around 1100 mts which passes through thick forest of Rhododendron and Oak forest.

Bhagsu Fall: Bhagsu fall is one of the famous tourists attraction in Mcleodganj located in Dharanshala. This fall attracted thousands of the tourists from all around the country. This fall is located on the main road which is well connected to the Mcleodganj to Dharamshala. Bhagsu fall is one of an amazing place for picnic with family and friends. Some cafes and coffee houses situated near the fall which offered some refreshing items and place to sit and enjoy coffee.

Namgyal Monastery: Namgyal monastery is one of the religious and important monasteries situated in Mcleodganj. It is the largest Tibetan temple and by the second Dalai Lama the foundation of monastery was laid down in 16th century for the help of other Dalai Lama and monks. Around 200 monks in the monastery are residing and work towards traditions and coulter. Apart from a beautiful monastery it also a education center called Namgyal Tantric college.

Tsuglagkhang: The Dalai Lama resides and worship inside the Tsuglakhang, which attracts devotees from all around the world. Inside the complex one can see a monastery, a library, various stupas and temples, bookstore and café. Every part of the complex is open from tourists expect for Dalai Lama residence. A beautiful statue of Lord Buddha is situated inside the temple complex.

Dharamkot: Dharamkot is a charming place situated at a distance of 9 km from Mcleodganj which is frequently visited by the tourists from all over the world. It is situated in the Kangra district surrounding by the deodar and charming landscape. One can enjoy the most beautiful views of Kangra valley and Dhauladhar range from here.

Tibetan Museum: Tibetan museum is located inside the Tsuglagkhang Complex which is offered the brilliant collections of Tibetan art, history, documents, paintings, handicrafts etc.

St. Johns Church: It was built in 1852 and referred as the most important church of Himachal Pradesh which is located near Dharamshala on the way to Mcleodganj.

Norbulingka Institute: It is a center for fostering Tibetan art and crafts offered the amazing style of Tibetan architecture. The Doll Museum is one the major attraction of this place.

Minkiani Pass: Minkiani Pass is one of the most beautiful trekking pass which is offered the panoramic views of northern region. It can be reach while trekking from Dharamshala to Chamba.

Naam Art Gallery: This is a beautiful Art Gallery offered the amazing work as well as spiritual art work.

Kareri Lake: Kareri Lake is a fresh water lake and received snow melting water in Dhauladhar ranges situated 9 km from Dharamshala. The nearest road is 3 km away from the lake and the trek is the best option to reach the Lake from road.

Kangra art Museum: This is a colorful museum dedicated to the Tibetan and Buddhist artwork, rich history and heritage.

Bajreshwari Temple: This temple is one of the 51th shakti peeths which is dedicated to goddess Bajreshwari Maa.

Excursion near Mcleodganj:

Kangra fort: Kangra fort is one of the most visited tourists attractions situated in Kangra district which is located around 22 km from Dharamshala. The fort spread over an area of 4 km which is guarded by the high walls and ramparts. The fort is situated at the top of a hill where the river Banganga and Patal Ganga embrace to each other. The fort has plenty of doors and inside the fort three temples are situated like Ambika Devi Temple, Shitlamata Temple and Lakshmi Naryan Temple. It is one of the oldest forts in country.

Baglamukhi Temple: This is a religious temple located in the kangra district. It is said that the yellow is the favorite color of goddess that’s why the temple has been painted in yellow color. The yellow dress wear the goddess and the yellow sweet are offered to the goddess.

Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple: Kaleshwar Temple is an ancient temple located in Paragpur at a distance of 8 km. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Shiva Lingan is the major attraction of the temple situated on the ground.

How to reach Mcleodganj:

By Air: The nearest Airport is Gaggal which is around 30 km away from Mcleodganj. The other nearest Airport is Chandigarh which is well connected to the other major cities. Taxies and Buses are easily available outside the Airport to reach Mcleodganj.
BY Train: Kangra Mandir Railway Station is the nearest Railway station to mcleodganj which is situated at a distance of 25 km from here. Taxies and Buses are easily available to reach.
By Road: Himachal tourism offered the regular bus services from Kashmiri Gate ISBT Delhi to reach mcleodganj. You can reach Dharamshala and then drive towards Mcleodganj.
