Lahaul and Spiti is the largest district in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh which is situated on the Indo – Tibetan border of India. It is a perfect destination for Adventurous lover and trekkers. It is two remote villages, situated at an elevation of 3350 mts above the sea level. Best Time to Visit:

May to October is the best time for visit and sightseeing. Summer is pleasant here. Lots of the tourists visit Lahaul during the summer and enjoy. Days are quite warm but the nights are cool. October to till March is the best time for enjoying the snow here. July, August and September are best time for trekkers and Adventurous lovers.


Visiting places around Lahaul:

Tabo Monastery: Tabo Monasteries is one of the most visited places in Lahaul which was established in 996 CE. This is an ancient monastery at this place. It is considered to be an important and as the Ajanta of Himalayan. Inside the complex have 9 temples and many stupas but all these are made of Mud. These temples belong to Buddhist deities like Tara and Buddha maitreya. Photography is now allowed inside the temple complex but you can take photo outside the monastery. Tabo Monastery is a UNESCO world heritage site.

Key Gompa: Key Gompa is a popular monastery which is founded in the 11th century. It is a largest Buddhist monastery situated in the Lahaul Valley. This beautiful monastery is situated at the top of the hill at 4170 mts above the sea level. Panoramic views are offered by the monastery.

Kunzum Pass: Kunzum is a high altitude Pass which is situated at an elevation of 4590 mts above the sea level. This is a beautiful pass connected to Lahaul and Spiti valley. Apart from that is popularly known for its various trekking route.

Dhankar Gompa: This monastery is one of the 100 most endangenred sites which is situated at an elevation of 3,894 mts above the sea level and placed at the height of 300 meter hillock. Dhankar Gompa is a part of a fort.

Keylong: This is a most popular place of Lahul region and administrative headquarter of Lahaul and Spiti district. It is situated at a height of 3440 mts above the sea level. It is a major hub for Lahaul region as buses to other destination. Keylong is lies on the bank of Bhaga River and Keylong Monastery is the largest and an important monastery which is situated here.

Shashur: This monastery is surrounding by the rare patch of woodland, founded by the Deva Gyatso in 7th century. The meaning of the “Shashur” in the blue pines. A big fair festival is celebrated every year in the month of June or July.

Guru Ghantal Monastery: Guru Ghantal Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries. It is lies on the confluence of river Chandra and Bhaga in Lahaul Valley.

Khardang: Khardang is a beautiful monastery and it is believed that this monastery is dated back around 12th century. It is popularly known as one of the most revered places which is a big library and attractive surrounding.

Tandi: Tandi is situated at the confluence of River Chandra and Bhaga.

Trilokinath Temple: This is one of the most visited temple of Lahaul and the temple revered by the both Hindu and Buddhists. The hindus worshiped as Lord Shiva and the Buddhists revered as the Avalokiteshwara.

Udaipur: Udaipur is an ancient temple which is dedicated to Goddess Devi Durga. Tourists who visit Lahaul they visit this ancient shrine which has fine carvings.

Chandra Tal: Chandra Tal is a beautiful lake which is surrounding by the amazing snows and the river has crystal clear water with depth of 2.5 km.


Excursion near Lahaul:

Kaza: Kaza is a beautiful valley which is popularly known for its snow covered mountains, crystal clear water, rivers, green meadows, pleasant weather, cool climate etc. Kaza is famous for its colorful festivals and Sakya Tangyud Monastery is one of the major attractions of the place. This beautiful destination is situated at an elevation of 11,990 mts above the sea level. Most of hotels, hospitals, bus stands and govt. offices are situated in Kaza. It is the base camp for trekking, mountaineering and other adventurous activities.

Spiti: Spiti is a most beautiful destination which is popularly known as Little Tibet. It is accessible only during summer, is the best time for visit. This valley is surrounding by the Mountains, Glaciers, Monasteries, crystal clear water rivers, pleasant and cool weather and prayer flags etc. Spiti is bordered by Tibet in the east and the meaning of Spiti is ‘Middle land’. It is situated at an elevation of 12, 500 mts above the sea level. Spiti is one of the major attractions of the place. Spiti is a perfect destination to know more about Tibetan Culture and Tradition.

Kibber: Kibber is located in Spiti Valley and known as the highest motorable village in the world. It is famous for its Famous Monasteries, Charming mountains and pleasant weather. Key Monastery is the largest monastery in Spiti near Kibber.

By Air: The nearest Airport is Bhunter to reach Lahaul which is situated at a distance of 175 km from Keylong. This Airport is well connected to the major destination of India. Outside the Airport Buses and Taxies are easily available.
By Train: Jogindernagar is the nearest Railway station to reach Lahaul and the other nearest Railway station is Chandigarh and Shimla. Taxies and buses are easily available to reach Lahaul.
By Road: Lahaul is well connected to the major destinations like Delhi, Manali, Kaza, Leh, Chandigarh etc. Taxies and Buses are easily available to reach Manali.
