Nagar is a beautiful village situated in Kullu district in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is a charming destination surrounding by the thick forest and amazing greenery from all side. It is situated at a distance of 22 km from Manali and 21 km from Kullu with at an elevation of 5750 ft above the sea level. Naggar is one of the least explore village which is close to major hill station of Himachal Pradesh like Kullu- Manali and Kasol. Naggra is an ancient town and once it was the oldest capital of Kullu especially to the north west of the valley. It is believed that this place was found by the King Vishudhpal and around 1460 years it was the capital of Kullu under the Raja Jagat Singh. After later the capital was shifted to Sultanpur in 1860.
Naggar is a most charming village in the valley today and lot of the tourists from all around the country visit Naggar to explore the nature beauty. A Russian Painter and Nicholas Roerich liked Naggar so much in early 20th century he settled here. Best Time to visit in Naggar:

Summer: Summer begins from April to till June with the pleasant temperature around 13 to 25 degree Celsius. Summer is the best time to visit naggar for sightseeing. You can find lot of tourists here during summer.
Winter: November to till February is the winter season here with the temperature as low as 0 degree Celsius. During winter season the entire valley is covered by the heavy snowfall.
Monsoon: This charming town received average rainfall and the season starts from July to till August. The town is totally covered by the fog.


Visiting place in Naggar:

Naggar Castle: Naggar Castle is one of the most beautiful and attractive place situated in Naggar. It is a medieval monsion decorated with wood and stone present overlooks kullu valley. It was built in 1460 A.D by the Raja Sidh Singh, which is present unique blend of the western and Himalayan style of architecture. This is converted into a heritage hotel by the government in 1987.

Uruswati Himalayan Folk Art Museum: It was established in 1928 as a research institute by the Russian Professor Nicolas Roerich. It is situated 100m uphill of Naggar. The name “Urusvati” mean the light of the morning star. It is the home of various musical instruments, stone, carving, etc.

Dagpo Shedrupling Monastery: It was built in 2005 recent attraction of Naggar. It is a religious monastery but also offered the most breathtaking views and backdrop of the area. It is dedicated to his holiness Dalai Lama.

Gauri Shankar Temple: This is a religious temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Gauri Shankar Temple is an ancient temple which was built in 11th century offered the amazing style architecture.

Jagatipatt Temple: It is a small town decorated with wooden located in Naggar castle premises of kullu. It is a perfect example of Himachal architecture.

Muralidhar Temple: It is located in Naggar built in pyramid style. Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha idols are located inside the temple.

Chamunda Bhagwati Temple: This temple is located at Nishala village situated at a distance of 4 km from Naggar on the way to Bijli Mahadev.

How to reach Naggar:

By Air: The Kullu Manali is the nearest Airport which is located in Bhuntar. This airport is situated at distance of 32 km from Naggar. Outside the airport taxies and buses are easily available to reach Naggar.
By Train: There is no direct Railway station to reach, Joginder Nagar is the Nearest Railway station situated at a distance of 145 km from Joginder nagara. Taxies and buses are easily available to reach from here.
By Road: Himachal Road Transport Corporation provides regular services to reach Manali and Naggar situated around 21 km from each other. Private taxies and buses are easily available to reach Naggar.
