Thamsar Pass Trek Himachal

Thamsar Pass trek is one of the amazing trekking trails situated in Kangar district in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The trek is lies in between Dhauladhar and Pir-Panjal range of the western Himalayan. Thamsar pass trek is an exciting and challenging trail in Kangra district. This trek will complete within 12 days and it is situated at an elevation of 4700 mts above the sea level. Thamsar trek is starts from Bir and during the trek you will enjoy the scenic nature beauty, Lush green meadows, beautiful colored flowers and several waterfalls with magnificent Pir-Panjal range. The trail is explored the unique life style of Goddi People.

Thamsar Pass is a high altitude pass in Dhauladhar range and connected with Chhota Bhangal region linked with Bara Bhangal. This trek is no connected with roads and surrounding by the mighty peaks and passes. During the months of October to April this pass remain close for tourists Due to heavy snow fall. On the way during the trek we proceed towards upon Panhartu that is the base camp of Thamsar on Chhota Bhangal side. This trek will take you to through narrow trail, glacial Beds, Rocky moraines, Gushing River etc.

One of the most enjoyable trek of Himachal region and the trek also provides you an opportunity to get lives of Locals Gaddi people which are living in the high mountain region. You will end your trek at Dharamshal and get an opportunity to explore the place’s Buddhist culture and also visit the residence of Dalai Lama.

The pass trek can be accessible between mid June and mid October. During the June to Till August the region received heavy snow. The normal temperature of the trek is around12 to 20 degree and during the night the temperature is around -2 to 6 degree. Days are quite warm but the nights are chilly here.

Itinerary:

Day 01: Delhi – Pathankot
In the evening you will catch AC train to reach Pathankot. Overnight train journey.

Day 02: Pathankot – Dalhousie (80 kms by road)
At the time of Arrival our representative will meet you and take you to Dalhousie by road. Check in the hotel, takes some rest and now you are free to local visit and sightseeing of Dalhousie in evening.

Day 03: Dalhousie – Kalatop – Khajiyar – Bharmour (110 km)
After breakfast in morning at hotel you will proceed towards Kalatop wildlife sanctuary and then Khajiyar. You can enjoy the beauty of Mini Switzerland and take lunch. After that you can go to Bharmour via Chamba. Check in the hotel at Bharmour and at evening you will take part in the Arti at Chaurasi Temple. Return back to hotel and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 04: Bharmour- Bharmani Mata Temple – Bharmour (6km trek)
After morning breakfast at hotel we will proceed towards Bharmani Temple by trekking with packed lunch. The temple is on the ridge with 03 km trek from Bharmour. In evening, return back to hotel dinner and overnight stay.

Day 05: Bharmour- Holi - Laakewali Mata (51 km)
Having breakfast at hotel in morning, you will depart to a small village Holi 38 km. the town holi is popularly known for its walnuts, delicious red royal, and golden apples. On the way you can enjoy the Garola and stay at the bank of Ravi River. After reaching holi village we will visit small market here, now we will go towards Nayagram and Laakewali Mata which is 3 km from Nayagram. Lunch at Laakewali Mata temple, overnight stay in the camp.

Day 06: Lakkewali Mata – Dharadi (10 km trek)
After having breakfast in hotel you will proceed towards Dharadi which is 10 km from Laakewali Mata. From here you will go down for 500 mts and then cross bridge and then climb up 1 km. now we will reach small village Surie. After that you will move ahead to Urna Village then go for Khrudu through ropeway. After lunch you will moved ahead through Garonda Village then climbs up steeply for 1 km over a spur a remote village of Dharadi. Enjoy dinner followed by an overnight stay in the camp.

Day 07: Dharadi - Lake Base Camp (14 lm trek)
After morning breakfast in the morning, you will go for a 14 km trekking to reach Dharadi. On the way picturesque rock are situated on the north side of the river. The side is covered by the thick forest. In 4- 5 hours you can reach Khanar Villageis reached. This path climbs through wooded slopes to reach. It is well defined and leads down through the small lake surrounding by green slope. Now Bara Bhanghal is only about 7-8 km from there. Overnight stay in the camp near the lake.

Day 08: Lake Base Camp – Bara Bhanghal (10 km trek)
Today you will move towards Bara Bhanghal that is the remote area of Kangra district. You can enjoy the 10 km trek to reach and the path climbs for some time and reach grassy meadows. You will continue to North east along the river Ravi. The old and beautiful village is situated on the right bank of River Ravi. Shepherd’s trail is found in all directions. During the trek Nikora Pass cross the Manimahesh North to Kugti in Bdhil Valley, Asha Gali Pass and Laluni Pass, across the Bara Bhanghal north east to Tandi in Lauhal Valley. Enjoy the camping on the side of Ravi River.

Day 09: Rest Day at Bara Bhanghal
Today you will free to rest at Bara Bhanghal or visit the village and enjoy the day.

Day 10: Bara Bhanghal - Marhu (9 km trek)
After breakfast you will go towards Marhu which take 9 km trek to reach. On the way you will cross the river by a bridge 200m upstream south to cross the thamsar Nala by a long bridge. After 5 km you will across thamsar and continue climbing through ahead and meadows. You can enjoy the snow capped shaped glaciated valley which are seen in back drop. It is an ideal campsite and overnight stay.

Day 11: Marhu – Alyas Base Camp (7 km trek)
Today we will leave from Marhu to Alyas base camp after breakfast. Locally known this pass as Lahesh situated 7 km from thamsar. The trek is full of Adventure will take 5-6 hours cover the slope. This is an ideal place for 8 km from Marhu where you can found a huge rock. During the month of June the trail surrounding by the snow covered but after monsoon and early October, the snows melt through the higher glacier. Overnight stay in the camp.

Day 12: Alyas Base Camp – Thamsar Pass – Panarthu( 20 km trek)
After completing Alyas Base camp, we will depart towards Panarthu Pass after breakfast, this trek is totally depends upon weather and physical condition of Trekkers. During the bad weather condition we will not take rick to across the pass. After breakfast and packed lunch start moving. This trek will create problems so you will start this trek at early morning. Alyas to Thamsar pass to Panarthu is 20 km trek. After completing this trek goes down on the glacier. During the early morning frozen snow makes better for walking. Around 3 km from the camp ground pass a glacier lake. Snow condition makes the pass quite difficult. The two small peaks Lantern and Thamsar can be seen on other side. Around 3 km the path crosses the glacier to its left and goes up to a huge rock shelter called Bharpal got. A beautiful rocky path makes a steep descent for 3 km to Panarthu. Overnight stay in camp site.

Day 13: Panarthu – Beed (26 km trek)
Today after breakfast, we will leave from Panarthu to Beed that is 28 km long mostly downwards. The trek is far16 km from Rajgundha where you can hire a local cab to reach Beed. A comfortable walk in the narrow valley to Palachak in 8 km here you can find forest rest houses and an eating shop. Uhl River originates from the glacier above Palachak. After cross the river the trail climbs to a ride above the west side. Here you can take a bus or walk for the last 14 km of down to Beed. Beed is popularly known for its Paragliding and also known as the Beed Khas. Enjoy the night stay in the camp side.

Day 14: Beed – Dharamshala – Delhi
Today is the last day of trekking, after breakfast we will proceed towards Dharamshala through Taxi. On the way you will visit Lord Shiva Temple Baijnath and Chamunda Temple at Daad. After that you will reach Dharamshala which is the last destination of trek. Take a lunch with group. Now depart towards Delhi, Overnight journey and reach Delhi to the next morning.
